British Columbia author wins Canadian Authors Vancouver 2015 Short Story Contest

VANCOUVER – Winners of the Canadian Authors – Vancouver 2015 Short Story Contest were announced this week by Jean Kay, the Branch Treasurer, and Contest Coordinator.
First place went to Edythe Anstey Hanen, a Canadian Authors member from the Vancouver Branch for her story, ‘Lonesome.’ Barb Howard from Calgary placed second, and Erin MacNair from North Vancouver placed third.

2nd Place – Barb Howard – CAA member from the Alberta Branch for her story, ‘MVP.’
3rd Place – Erin MacNair – CAA member from the Vancouver Branch for her story, ‘Left Standing.’
The judges commented that all the winners’ works are so powerful that it steals your breath away. Each story resonates with an intense focus on life’s tenuousness, life’s wonders and human understanding.
Cash prizes for winners are First $300, Second $200, and Third $100. Winner’s works will be published in the National Voices 2016 Anthology, which includes the 2015 and 2016 contest winners, along with submissions from members of Canadian Authors Vancouver. Winners receive a complimentary copy of National Voices 2016 Anthology, and they’ll read their stories at the Canadian Authors Vancouver Annual General Meeting and Social in December 2015. The winning stories will be posted for one year on the Vancouver Branch website after they are presented in December.
Canadian Authors – Vancouver holds meetings on a variety of topics, all to do with aspects of writing. The public is welcome to attend. They meet monthly on the second Wednesday, September through June, with socials for members and their guests at other locations in August and December. There are no meetings during July. Meetings are held from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Alliance for Arts and Culture, 100 – 938 Howe Street, Vancouver. Members attend at no charge; guests are $10, students with ID pay $5.
