Day 23 of NaPoWriMo “Today, let’s try writing triolets. A triolet is an eight-line poem. All the lines are in iambic tetramenter (for a total of eight syllables per line), and the first, fourth, and seventh lines are identical, as are the second and final lines. This means that the poem begins and ends with the same couplet. Beyond this, there is a tight rhyme scheme (helped along by the repetition of lines) — ABaAabAB.” I created two.
TWO TRIOLETS
Today was my Father’s birthday
I think he’d like my poetry,
he was always so supportive.
Today was my Father’s birthday
and one gift to him I could give
would be my book called Morning Light.
Today was my Father’s birthday
I think he’d like my poetry.
If I could write a best seller
I doubt it would be poetry,
perhaps I should try a romance.
If I could write a best seller
I’d need to plan well in advance.
I know writing isn’t easy.
If I could write a best seller
I doubt it would be poetry.
