For day 11 of National Poetry Writing Month (NaPoWriMo) “I challenge you to write a tanka. This, like the “American” cinquain, is a poem based on syllables, with the pattern being 5-7-5-7-7.” Here is mine.
TANKA CHALLENGE
My challenge today
is to create a tanka:
verses with five lines.
Who dreams up these sequences
interfering with my flow?
What words of wisdom
can I portray in this way
counting out each line?
A conflict grows within me –
both sides of my brain in gear.
One side at a time
is much easier on me –
being creative,
not facing the challenges
of counting in my left brain.
