For day 9 of National Poetry Writing Month (NaPoWriMo) “Today I challenge you write a poem inspired by noir — it could be in the voice of a detective, or unravel a mystery, or just describe the long shadows of the skyscrapers in the ever-swirling smog.”
A MYSTERY
Who is this person looking back
at me in the mirror each morning?
Is it just skin, bone and hair that I see,
or is more than a new day dawning?
Do I like what I see? That’s important.
Do I take time to truly know
that I have a power within me,
that guides me wherever I go?
Can I see beyond the challenges
that tend to cloud my view?
Do I believe I can accomplish
what I set out to do?
Do I see a look of gratitude
for all I am and am yet to be?
Can I smile at the mirror image
And say a cheery “Good morning.” to me?
I can set the tone of my day
by appreciating I am alive,
and expanding that sense of abundance
so I don’t just live, I thrive.
