Day six of National Poetry Writing Month (NaPoWriMo) – “I challenge you to write a valediction. This is a poem of farewell.”
COME SPRING
Farewell to bare, dead-looking trees,
though I appreciate their true shape.
I look forward to leaves of green
adorning each landscape.
Farewell to long, dark, cold nights,
though I like to snuggle in.
I look forward to bright, cheerful days
and new life that will begin.
Farewell to chilling temperatures,
though snowy days can be fun.
I look forward to being outdoors more
enjoying heat from our sun.
Farewell to birds migrating north,
though I know you’re just passing through.
I look forward to your return in fall
when seeking warmth is what you’ll do
Farewell to wondering what I’ll do,
though I like to sit and ponder.
I look forward to all the joys of spring
and my inner urge to wander.
